Bagan & Buddhist Temples

Myanmar Buddhist Monuments & Architecture

Ananda Temple
Exotic pictures of temples pagodas shrines and Buddhist monuments
The most famous "Buddhist pagoda city" is Bagan in the dry zone of central Myanmar (Burma) the biggest country in the ASEAN region.

Why creating these stupas Buddhist temples and shrines? Building monuments such as temples, pagodas, shrines and stupas at Bagan and elsewhere? It was a fashion for centuries to build them as an insurance against the risk inherent in bad actions. The whole area of this ancient city for kilometers and kilometers was and is a maze of them.

Everyone who could afford it built Buddhist stupas, shrines, temples and pagodas and dedicated slaves to keep them. This pagoda-building was well suited to a rich and elegant environment because every building had a flavor of arts. Building one was profitable not in a vulgar sense but metaphysically. The profit was connected with the current theory of salvation by works a theory which mystics like the Royal Chaplain found shallow, but which was suitable for laymen. According to
it all actions were indestructible facts which accumulated they became the personality of the actor.
The Bagan Temple Map
In the Buddhist world to build a stupa or temple was assumed to be a meritorious act and, therefore, to make the builder to that extent a "meritorious person". It balanced unmeritorious acts, means, if a court lady felt that her tongue had been running away with her and thereby she was accumulating a demerit which threatened to hold her back from that ultimate enlightenment which was the aim of the religion, it became very proper for her to build a pagoda.
Bagan is the pagoda and temple city "par excellence" there is nothing similar on planet earth, maybe on Alpha Centauri but we don't know, never been there before since my Honda Scooter has some limitation inherent to "Earthlings" also Luke Skywalker has no idea how to bridge the gap so what?

There is only one structure in Myanmar which can match that and that is the Shwedagon Pagoda which is the most prominent single stupa structure in the country. Although it is whether the oldest nor the tallest but it is the most fascinating followed by the Shwezigon of Bagan and the Shwenandaw of Bago.

Visiting for a Bagan monument day tour

The modern visitor of today look at the monuments of Bagan from a different point of view are a real attraction under various light conditions posing a challenge for every serious photographer and video creator. Unless someone is not watching from the Buddhist spiritual view or maybe from an archeological point.

For a photographer the type and volume of the subjects are also totally unique since there is nothing similar on earth, that's the stuff mega photos are made from.

Now is the time for new exploration because in a few years (today 2016) the tourist Tsunami will swap over this great plains and then no much space left. These incredible Buddhist shrines have fascinated people coming from east and west. The main colors are always golden earth tones and white and the forms are amazing.

The Ananda Temple is a mighty structure. One of the musts sees sacred Buddhist structures because the temple condition is still excellent.

Although there are still around 2000 shrines around in various conditions but only a few are "visit worthy". Which also come to the point when you want to have a serious look at some places you need a good because only they know were to key for the doors are.

To be guided is a good idea anyway first you get a better idea about Bagan's mighty Buddhist temples and second it's not a bad idea to distribute some money to the local people they are really poor anyway so try to be a bit social not only at facebook the real world is more important.

Various temple structures are around

Shrine Photos
All are either Buddhist or Hindu Temples and all are above ground.

No cave temples are here around actually the shrines appear all quite similar and after visiting ten of them you have seen what you wanted the only difference between them are the interior and underground vaults. But you won't see that if you read the text above you already know why because the guide has the door key.

The solution is again the some distribute some relative little money and everyone becomes instantly happy.
