Bago to Yangon
Bago (Pegu) was the door to Burma until the 17. Century
The old Pegu today Bago an ancient port city on the river about hundred km northeast of Yangon (Rangoon) the city was the capital of a Mon kingdom long time ago. 

Today on the Yangon–Mandalay and Mawlamyne railway which is a branch line along the Gulf of Martaban a part of the Andaman Sea.

Bago has the tallest Pagoda in Myanmar the Shwemawdaw (“Golden Shrine”) with a height of 288 feet (88 m) the stupa was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1930 and it took a long time for renovation until 1954.

The Shwethalyaung reclining Buddha is a colossal Buddha statue 55 m in a pavillion (tazaung) just before the Bago city entrance there are a few more gigantic Buddha statues in the vicinity. Above is the Lake Monastery also close to the Pegu City entrance.

Bago is a city about 100 km east of Yangon and at the crossing between the northern and southern half of Myanmar.

People usually drive through to the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda in Mon State to southwards  or to Mandalay in the north. A new destination is emerging now to cross into Thailand. They are currently (2017) talking about a bus connection from Bangkok lets see what the future brings since this guys talk a lot but hardly achive anything.

The 100 year old Shwe Tha Lyaung Buddha image is the second largest reclining Buddha in Myanmar. It is 74m long, 21 m high and can be seen at the edge of town.
