The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh Cambodia

The new Royal Palace

The new Royal Palace in Phnom Penh
The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh Camboda is an impressive structure. It encloses a couple of buildings in traditional Khmer style and is mainly for representative purpose to show some local great architecture although it was more or less built by the French but in local style.

Definitely one of the highlights of any visit to the country, it's a unique experience and ideal for a day trip. Just behind the Tonle Sap Riverfront and very close to the National Museum and the University of Art plus plenty of creative shops showing old Khmer artifacts are at the same location. Further to the east is Sisowath Quay the center of the city with a waterfront along the Tonle Sap River and Lake with a lively scene day and night.

Luckily there is nothing around anymore about the Khmer Rouge.
For air ticket booking to Cambodia and Phnom Penh / Siem Reap (they have the old royal palace in Angkor) just use Air Asia they have the best connections and lowest prices.

I just was wondering why they kept the place in a strong yellow light, maybe to emphasize the golden color elements, anyway a exotic hall in style. Maybe they can give a suitable chair to the guardian the white plastic stuff doesn't fit.

The king is seen here very rarely the place is only used for some official state occasions. The whole area integrates large green landscaping elements it is not so commercialized as at Sanam Luang in Bangkok opposite the National Museum where one can even feel all is done to free the tourists from their money.

The new Royal Palace seen from Sisowath Quay along the Tonle Sap is an impressive construction with some French elements in it and a very clear Khmer design.

Why new? Because the old one is in Angkor and in bad conditions. I just was wondering why they keep the Throne Hall in a strong yellow light.

Maybe to emphasize the golden color elements, anyway an exotic hall in style. They should give a suitable chair to the guardian the white plastic stuff doesn't fit a palace.

The Buddha art shop pictured below right is in the next street north of to the Royal Palace. They have many stone Buddha but they also sculpt with concrete.

The Silver Pagoda

Buddhist Pagoda Photos
Within the palace area are many national treasures some of them have been brought here from other parts of Cambodia to avaid looting.

The precious emerald Buddha Statue which appears quite similar to the green sculpture in the Grand Palace at Sanam Luang in Bangkok can also be seen.

The Silver Pagoda is placed on the south side of the Royal Palace and naturally has a name which is Wat Ubosoth Ratanaram (Khmer: វត្តឧបោសថរតនារាម) as known as Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morakot (Khmer: ព្រះវិហារព្រះកែវមក៌ត.

The shrine is decorated with about 5000 silver tiles in the interior and exterior with Italian marble.

The Khmer world of that time ruled large parts of today ASEAN

Very close to the palace  is the National Museum which is not as richly stocked as similar places elsewhere in the world that has its reason in looting the country over centuries. Even today precious Khmer antiques can be found for sale in Singapore and London.

Actually, because the country is still quite poor artifacts still find the way out and people make huge profits with it. All this is nothing new in Southeast Asia all countries have similar peoblems.

A Khmer Kings Palace

Here is a visual of an ancient Khmer Ruler, very imaginative and pretty pictures of the King of Angkor.

Full of ancient life at Angkor Wat and "Angkor Thom". A long time ago the king was on an elephant ride, today the tourists are on the beast and the real contemporary kings because they bring the money to make the Khmer happy. To make you visually happy just sit down at a cafe or restaurant along Sisowath Quay and appreciate the view of the Tonle Sap River.

Come to Cambodia and you can feel like a one, keep in mind the country not only Angkor, there are several places like that although not as large, try other things to do e.g. make a trip to Phnom Chisor just about 2 hours south of Phnom Penh. The other tourists everywhere like are the beaches on the South China Sea especially around Sihanoukville but also in Koh Kong and actually along the whole coast and on the islands.
