South Sea Islands

Endless Summer in the Ocean

Feel it tingle and want to be cast away in a controled way?
An outdoor South Sea Trip has often to do with camping because this will be the first approach for a trip into the wilderness of the South Sea just watch the picture above and guess where to go?

No there is not already a Beach Resort around. Where some beautiful and exotic girls receive you with a dance be shaking their ass and presenting a coconut to slurp the cool liquid.

Like scattered pearls, the thousands of islands are around in the South Sea. This gigantic marine region has only a small land mass, which houses the territories of 22 independent states. E.g one of them, Vanuatu, consists of 83 islands, which stretch over a length of 1300 kilometers.

Since a large part of the south sea, today belongs to the USA and Australia it is a preferred playground of US tourists. Including Australian and New Zealand tourists. Actually in 2016  more Singaporean and Red Chinese traveler found the south sea islands a great holiday destination.

Here is a fantastically beautiful island world

But living it is not as easy. On the list of the world's most vulnerable countries in the "World Risk Index", Vanuatu took the lead in 2015. The biggest danger is from tropical hurricanes: between November and May, gigantic cyclones are brewing over the South Pacific. They drag thousands of kilometers over the warm water and rushing through the islands in orca farms. The warmer the sea, the more water evaporates and the higher the humid air rises.

The Coriolis force, which is due to the rotation of the earth, directs the air on a band about 500 kilometers away from the equator - exactly where most of the South Seas rise. Nature has its' own rules and one of this is that the ocean's surface water becomes more  than 26 degrees Celsius. That means more cyclones will sweep over the region.  At present, they say, about three millimeters are added each year actually I am living on such an island and nobody every recognized any increase in the water surface level.

According to new studies, the sea level rise could accelerate so much that the southern seas could be swallowed in 100 years although the fact is there is no evidence for all of this. Considering how many water such countries as China alone take out huge amounts of water from the global circulation the opposite is more likely.

South Sea Photos
South Sea pearls have been discovered in the gold-lipped (and other colors), 'Pinctada Maxima' oyster of the south Pacific.

But not only there they also were found by the "Sea Gypsy" pearl diver of the Andaman Sea in south Myanmar (Burma's) Myeik Archipelago .  Off the north-eastern coast of Australia in the 1930 ties, they found a method to cultivate them.

As usual with discoveries, especially in southeast Asia the method it was copied and in the 198x ties the Myanmar's managed, with some Japanese help, to grow them in the Myeik Archipelago. The result was beautiful spheres in colors such as white golden silver black and pink visible today in the Bogyoke Market in Yangon. This is one of the top gemstone bazaars in today's world.

Outdoor Photo
Out there you can drift away from your daily routines and all that is not so far away.

Pristine islands in the blue Pacific Ocean north of Australia and east of the Philippines. If you know the area you intend to go for your outdoor travel it's somehow easy but it is a good idea to go through area maps again and learn how to use a compass.

One basic start to do your outdoor adventure is never traveling alone. The best is to take a local guide with , only one person is an easy pray for mad people out there and if you have an accident there might be someone needed to help.

Check for good camping gear and tents and don't underestimate this because in Asia outdoor adventures are not common which finally means it is not easy just to go shopping for. Every trip into the South Sea Wilderness requires carrying certain basic items you can easily find at any outdoors store but these shops are rather rare there.

Outdoor backpacks clothing and equipment need to think about a bit.

Actually, this is not only for outdoor adventure in this part of the world.  It depends on where you go on your trek and how long you are out there plus how is the terrain. Is it forest, is it dessert, are mountains to climb on your outdoor adventure trip are there rivers to cross and so on. So think first and act after rafting in the brown waters is very popular among foreign and local tourists.

If you want to do it on your own take some water, food, a compass, maps and learn how to handle the compass in relation to the map.

A first aid kit won't hurt, flashlight, pocket knife or similar, waterproof matches and a lighter are a must on outdoor travel to the South Sea. One of the most important items on your outdoor adventure trip is good shoes, boots or other sports shoes. If you like fishing, take some fishing gear with you, outdoor clothing and rain protection. Out there in the wilderness, an insect repellent and a whistle for attracting attention would also be a good idea.

The whole depends very much on the area and how remote is the outdoor area to travel to, hiking trails, maybe a lake and some small rivers to catch the dinner. Get some fishing gear too! Camping is not for every traveler since all visitor to nature are really on the front. Bugs running around, mosquitoes and other unpleasant insects.

Enjoy a great waterfall or just jump into the ocean and say hello to the fish via scuba diving. Some of the greatest outdoor destinations are waterfalls in particular with ponds where you can explore the different levels and jump into it at the low level, this is in wild nature or maybe in an outdoor park.

Problems in the South Pacific
Photos
The real threats when living on the islands come from storms and sea level rise make an effective coastal protection important. Many South Seas islands similar to other coastal areas worldwide benefit from a natural barrier: the mangroves. Mangrove trees thrive in brackish water. It's a branched root system which works against the erosion of the coasts, but it has yet another important function: as a breeding ground for the underwater world. Bacteria from the mud feed the krill, small crabs, and these, in turn, serve as food for young fish.

The fish offspring are well protected in the mangroves from predators since larger fishes do not enter the roots area. To do something against environmental protection organizations have planted thousands of mangroves in recent years. Afforestation is difficult, however, because the young plants have to defy the storms for several years without protection. On average, it produces only about a quarter of the seedlings.

The distribution of the land areas in the vast South Pacific
Photos
It takes the form of pearls scattered around a soccer field.

It is a miracle that people have managed to penetrate the remote islands. The first settlers came from Asia 3,000 years ago, extending their settlements from generation to generation. Population growth, hardship, and even adventures were driving factors. The family, which first colonized an island, placed the chief.

For the Europeans, the South Seas had long been a legendary terrain - until the British navigator Captain James Cook explored this unknown world in the 18th century and gained world fame through his expeditions. He undertook three journeys into the South Seas, and had spent ten years traveling together.

On board: a young German naturalist named Georg Forster. His records determine our image from the South Sea to this day. Together with his father, Forster studied the strange animal and plant world. They pushed forward in areas that no European had yet entered. Georg Forster's detailed sketches for the first time presented a picture of the diversity and exoticism of the South Sense. Later the reports even inspired the great naturalist Alexander von Humboldt to explore distant lands.
