Heading 3

Cagayan de Oro City and Harbor

The north Mindanao Coast
When coming from Iligan the road is getting much better there are 4 lanes and a good surface which is a positive sign because the roads are real bad on average.

The native people from this northern part of the island are from various tribes and they have some kind of an open air village-museum including a hotel to show them. There is a handicrafts markets, some bars and nightclubs and a couple of hotels.

In the bay harbor are huge ferries to Manila and Cebu, a indication that this is a harbor town. Festivals always draw the crowd and there is the Kagayan Festival every last week of August which does exactly that. The festival show history and activities of the of the Manobo tribe, the natives.

See the Cagayan de Oro travel map and as it is visible there are not many roads around because of the rough terrain with steep slopes which produce mainy waterfalls and the rivers people go rafting in.

Behind the city to the east come Butuan where the road to Davao through the highlands starts which is a very divers and cultural active area. At the road from there to Davao in the south are several great nature spots with ethnic festivals and plenty of forests and lakes.

t’s called the Agusan Marsh  there is also a wildlife sanctuary around with shallow lakes, freshwater marshes and ponds along the Agusan river and other rivers feeding the Agusan this are the largest wetland of the Philippines and have a top ecological status. A preferable place for bird with plenty of local and migratory birds, they even come from Russia, China and Japan when winter moves in in the north. You can edit text on your website by double clicking on a text box on your website. At the Malasag mountain, or rather hills white water rafting, or brown water, is offered as a real adventure tour. Almost on the way out from the city is some kind of a folklore village with some history ideas showing the different tribes of the area including some dance performance, native souvenirs, cottages and houses for rent plus a restaurant. There is some adventure travel in the Malasag mountain mainly river rafting .

There is an education way through the forest where trees are marked and defined including a hanging bridge but the access to the hanging bridge is blocked. The terrain is very steep up and down means if you are not in the real good condition you won't be able to move around there since they don't allow cars to come in. Anyway, visiting this folklore village is probably the best thing to do here plus having a look around at the port and try seafood.

On Mindanao mountain streams white water rafting is available. The best to start this soft adventure version is to visit a local travel in Cagayan de Oro City and they will do the rest since it takes some logistics and experience let them do the job and you will be the one to enjoy it.  The only thing to do from your side is payment and make sure they have a waterproof container on board to store all your gadgets don't take this too easy since some water on an expensive camera could make it break, if ever anything like that happen immediately stop using the equipment, get some clothes around and wait for a day until the wet is gone.

Rafting in the Malasag Hills

If you have this planned already since some time before it makes sense to buy one, they are quite cheap, now up-up and away. It also could be a good idea to ask via the internet or phone if the rivers have enough water because the water level is different according to the season because of not enough water, no rafting.
